This article is worth reading , not so much because the author criticizes the worldview of the GOP, but because he describes, with great clarity, how our worldviews are constructed and preserved - and how inaccurate they can be when they are the product of confined experience.
I once hoped that the internet would prove an antidote to this process of epistemic closure, but I'm no longer as optimistic about this.

I think there's reason to remain hopeful in the long-run that digital revolution(s) will help us keep our epistemic processes default to "open." There will be growing pains; there will be huge swaths of people sucked into a virtual whirlpool of ignorance (a contemporary example being the party discussed in the article). But just as the writer could not hold the illusion together, digital natives will come of age and start to articulate how, as you very nicely stated, "how our worldviews are constructed and preserved - and how inaccurate they can be when they are the product of confined experience." Digital natives breathe these ideas right now without necessarily having the tools to articulate them coherently. But eventually, they will find sweeping political expression. Maybe not in a party (but maybe in ever increasing numbers of people walking away from the GOP, for starters, then widespread rejection of that party's legitimacy such that they can never hold the country hostage to ignorance and arrogance). Things like Occupy were first starts. The impetus behind that movement hasn't gone away, even though the demonstrations have.
